Mixquell

Privacy policy

Last updated 8 September 2026

Mixquell is a macOS app that controls the volume and output device of individual apps on your Mac.

What Mixquell collects

Nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting. The app makes no network requests of its own. No personal data is collected, stored on a server, or shared with anyone.

Audio

To change an app's volume, Mixquell asks macOS for the System Audio Recording permission. Despite its name, this is the only interface Apple provides for adjusting one app's sound. Mixquell uses it to process audio as it plays, so it can apply your volume and send the sound to the device you chose.

Audio is never recorded, written to disk, or transmitted. Turning the permission off in System Settings stops all per-app control immediately.

Your microphone

Mixquell can mute and unmute your microphone. It does this by setting the input device's own mute switch, in exactly the way the Sound pane in System Settings does: muting writes a setting on the device and reads no audio from it. Audio that Mixquell does handle, to give each app its own volume, is never recorded, never stored and never transmitted; none of it leaves your Mac.

While your microphone is muted, Mixquell keeps a small note of that on your Mac so it can undo the mute if the app is ever forced to quit. The note holds the device's identifier, the time the mute was made, and, on devices that are muted by lowering their input level, the level to put back. An entry is deleted as soon as that device is unmuted; if the device was unplugged while muted, its entry waits until you plug it back in, and one for a device that never returns is dropped after thirty days.

What is stored on your Mac

All of it stays in your user account on your Mac. Deleting the app removes it.

Purchases

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Mixquell receives only whether a purchase exists. It never sees your name, email address or payment details. Apple's privacy policy covers the transaction.

Children

Mixquell is a utility with no user-generated content or communication features, and collects no data from anyone, including children.
